After initially being expected to be in the lineup for yesterday's game against Seattle and being a late scratch, Prince Fielder will also miss today's game due to ongoing issues with a herniated disc in his neck.
Given the laundry list of injuries the club has dealt with to this point, it's frustrating to see one of the game's most durable players also dealing with an ailment of his own, and a bit worrisome that the issue is dragging out longer than initially expected.
In other words, with the way this season has gone, it won't surprise me to find out tomorrow that Prince has been placed on the 60-day DL. The bad luck continues.
The news just got a whole lot worse. Fielder won't even travel with the team to Detroit. Instead, he'll remain behind in Texas to be evaluated by Dr. Drew Dossett. At this point, it seems all but certain that Prince will end up on the DL, and it remains to be seen exactly how long he'll be out. Given the way this season has gone, I'm fully expecting Fielder's next at-bat to be in 2015.
