Cactus League: The Rangers Are 3-1

Well, they weren't going to go undefeated in Cactus League play, were they? Some thoughts:

  • Nomar Mazara had another hit in today's game against Seattle. His OPS still sits at 1.545. Not too shabby, if you're into putting stock into this sort of thing.
  • Nick Tepesch got roughed up a bit. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in his 2 innings of work. He required 45 pitches -- 28 for strikes -- to get his 2 innings of work in. All in all, not exactly how he was hoping for his showing to go.
  • Adrian Beltre is quietly doing Adrian Beltre things. He had another hit today, and appears to be in midseason form both at the plate and in the field.
  • Perhaps the day's best news came not from this game, but from the "B" game that Martin Perez pitched against the White Sox. He pitched 38 pitches in 3 scoreless innings, inducing 7 ground balls. Perez is a player that many believe is ready to be a leader in the Texas rotation, so seeing him take command, even in a Spring Training game, was nice to see.
