Things got a little hairy in the bottom of the 9th, but a win is a win.
- Ian Desmond got his first home run of Spring Training, a solo shot in the top of the 5th inning. He also had another hit and a strikeout.
- Ryan Rua added another 2 hits to his ledger. The Rangers may face a difficult decision on him in the coming weeks if he keeps playing like this.
- In probably the best development of the day, Joey Gallo worked 2 walks and had no strikeouts. No, this isn't world-breaking news, but it appears that he's getting a bit more comfortable at the plate after something of a rough start to Spring Training.
- I wanted to save this last bullet point for Chi Chi Gonzalez. I wrote about him this morning and talked about how he needs to increase his strikeouts and reduce his walks. From a results standpoint, Gonzalez had a solid outing, tossing 3 scoreless innings. However, in those 3 innings, he didn't record a single strikeout while issuing 2 walks. He did, however, induce 6 grounders. For Chi Chi to achieve the middle-of-the-rotation potential that the Rangers have envisioned for him, however, he's simply going to have to do better with his peripherals. Perhaps it's all part of the the learning curve, but you'd still like to see a bit more progress from a 24-year-old pitcher.
