Martín Perez recalled, Ross Detwiler released

I'm usually always at least a day late on posting Rangers news, what with my work schedule and all, but over the last few days Texas has been aligning its chips for the opening of the second half on Friday.

Of most consequence, Martín Perez is on the active roster and will start in Houston on Friday. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rangers have optioned RHP Roman Mendez, who was recently recalled when Ross Detwiler got designated for assignment...

Speaking of Detwiler, on Wednesday he rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Round Rock, and has been granted his release. I was originally optimistic of Ross's chances with the Rangers, especially since it didn't have to give up anything important to acquire him. Alas, buy-low moves pan out only if the player is, well, at least average, which Detwiler clearly wasn't. He finishes his brief tenure in Arlington with a 7.12 ERA in 43 IP, which included 7 starts.
