Cactus League: Rangers Play to Tie Against Dodgers

The Rangers were leading the Dodgers 3-2 headed into the top of the 9th inning, but ended up tying. Some thoughts:

  • In the bottom of the 9th inning, minor league pitcher Jefri Hernandez threw a wild pitch, thereby allowing the tying run to come home and score. The Rangers were unable to score again in the bottom of the 9th inning, and since Spring Training games are mostly meaningless, the game stood as a tie.

  • Chi Chi Gonzalez pitched 2 solid innings, giving up only a hit on 21 pitches (15 for strikes). Being one of the guys competing for a potential rotation spot, more outings like today's can only help his chances of cracking the Opening Day roster.

  • Adrian Beltre was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI on the day in his first Spring Training action. More of the same we've come to expect. Nothing to see here. Move along.

  • Ian Desmond had a double and a strikeout in his Rangers Spring debut. He didn't receive any fielding chances in his 6 innings of work.
