About the Availability of Tanner Scheppers

So we now have our answer as to why Tanner Scheppers wasn't considered available last night in Cleveland despite only throwing 4 pitches the day before.

Apparently, Scheppers was attacked by "several young males" while out getting food two blocks away from the team hotel Thursday night. Due to a black eye and some cuts above his nose, Scheppers was considered unavailable last night in a close game against the Cleveland Indians that the Rangers went on to lose 11-8 after giving up a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning.

He'll supposedly be good to go tonight, but perhaps this is yet another wake-up call for those in the media that have, in the past, condemned professional athletes for carrying weapons on their persons for self-defense purposes. In this case, it's fortunate that Scheppers is OK, although it's unclear as to what the motivation was behind the attack, as police apparently told him that these things are somewhat common.
