Leonys Martín optioned; Ryan Strausborger recalled

This afternoon the Texas Rangers optioned CF Leonys Martín to Triple-A Round Rock, and have recalled outfielder Ryan Strausborger from the Express.

Martin has been awful at the plate in 2015, sporting a .220/.265/.314 (54 wRC+) triple slash line in over 300 plate appearances. Because of his elite defense in center field, Leonys has been acceptable at the bottom of the lineup this year, but with the emergence of Delino DeShields, as well as the corner outfield at bats being absorbed by a healthy Josh Hamilton and Shin-Soo Choo, lately Leonys Martin has been relegated to a 4th outfielder/defensive replacement type.

Ryan Strauborger, 27, has spent his entire professional career in the Rangers organization. Beyond that I don't have a whole lot to offer other than he's right-handed, is considered a slightly above average defender, and is hitting .278/.329/.438 (103 wRC+) with 10 HRs at Triple-A this year.

Although the demotion is a wakeup call, it seems plausible that Martin won't spend a helluva lot of time in the minors. He is still the Rangers best defender at the most critical outfield position, and with September callups right around the corner, the hope is his swing can be tweaked in time for Leonys to contribute to the stretch run.
